Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

WHAT IS IT?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by entrapment of the median nerve in the wrist. It causes paresthesia, pain, numbness, and other symptoms in the distribution of the median nerve due to its compression in the carpal tunnel.  It is often caused by overuse in an office setting such as typing, or heavy computer work.   There is often night pain, and occasional weakness noted.   While nonsurgical treatment may work for a while many patients do go on to need a carpal tunnel release surgery.
